OMERS employees are passionate supporters of the communities where we live and work, which is why we established the OMERS Foundation. In Canada, the OMERS Foundation is bringing together the charitable activities of our employees across the country. It allows us to make a significant difference on the issues we care about most. In 2017, with the generous support of donors and volunteers, almost $200,000 was donated to 13 grassroots charities across Canada.
Examples of the grants awarded include:
- $20,000 grant to Integrated Services for Autism and Neurodevelopment Disorders (ISAND) Helping Hands Fund. Through this fund, 16 families will have access to a 12-week program to develop life skills and tools free of charge.
- $15,000 to Youth Philanthropy Initiative Canada (YPI), a multi-award-winning secondary school program that grows compassionate communities by connecting youth to social issues, local charities and philanthropy at a pivotal stage in their adolescence.
- $15,000 to George Hull Centre for Families and Youth’s Teen Talk program, designed for youth aged 15–17 years overwhelmed by their difficult emotions, to help them avoid future, long-term mental health difficulties.
All of the recipient organizations support the OMERS Foundation’s mission to create healthy and vibrant communities for generations to come. The OMERS Foundation is proudly an employee initiative. Employees will raise the money, run the Foundation, and decide which charities will receive the grants. By engaging OMERS employees, we are able to identify health and education programs that inspire and enable people to realize their potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
