Rewards and Recognition
We recognize outstanding sustainability performance through our annual sustainability awards. Peer nominations are submitted and winners are selected by our Sustainability Steering Committee.
This award is given to the properties with the highest overall energy performance improvement within their asset class.
1250 René Lévesque, Montreal, Forest Lane Apartments, Toronto, and Hillcrest Mall, Richmond Hill, were all recognized for achieving the highest overall energy performance improvements from 2016 to 2017 in each of their respective asset classes.
Property of the Year
This award is given to the property or properties with the most outstanding achievement or overall performance, consistent with Oxford’s Sustainable Thinking performance indicators.
The property was able to save approximately $400,000 year to date by replacing old technology with new, energy-saving technology, commissioning and optimizing temperature sensors; using smart building technology to allow remote access and control by smart phone; and adjusting load shedding during the day. Replacing all common area washroom faucet aerators reduced water usage by 50%. And after all that, the team also piloted a stormwater credit program, providing a reduction to properties whose stormwater practices provide a direct benefit to the city’s Stormwater Management Program. The pilot saved 30% or approximately $29,000 annually on their fees.
Star of the Year
This award recognizes an individual within Oxford who has made an outstanding personal commitment to the principles and goals of Oxford’s Sustainable Thinking program.
Dave is a champion for sustainability when it comes to managing buildings efficiently. With a passion for waste, Dave redeveloped the building’s waste management program, resulting in an increased waste diversion from 75% to 93%, while saving approximately $75,000 per year. He regularly engages customers in the process through interactive and educational activities and reporting. The building was recently awarded the Corporate Leadership Award from the Recycling Council of Alberta, which recognizes outstanding recycling performance and programs. Dave has been monumental in the sustainability efforts since he started in 2015. Through his efforts, we continue to see results in the areas of energy efficiency, water reduction and waste management.
Many of Oxford’s buildings are recognized every year by external associations for their exemplary performance in areas such as energy, water, materials and customer service, among others. Further information on external recognition is available here.
